Beef Cattle Programs:

Programs involving beef cattle are provided in breeding and genetics, reproduction, nutrition and forage utilization, production and management and marketing.  You can call the office to learn more about Master Beef Producer (MB) Certification, Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Certification or to prepare for the Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program (TAEP)

 

Tennessee Master Beef Producer



Master Beef Program (MBP):
The sessions within this program are designed to provide opportunities to gain knowledge with hands-on experience in current beef cattle management practices that are important to the profitability and sustainability of the industry.

Topics can include but are not limited to:

  • Marketing & Management: Learn how to take advantage of tools for managing market risk and use economic tools to generate the optimal level of revenue for the quality of cattle produced.
  • Production Economics & Budgeting: Manage the cost of production through budgeting and purchasing, making the most out of each dollar.
  • Genetics: Combine time-tested genetic selection with cutting edge tools that ensure choosing sires and dams to produce calves that fit your environment and marketing objectives.
  • Handling Facilities, Fencing & Transportation: Choose and install the right handling facilities and fencing, along with trailer management practices.
  • Forages: Make the most out of your forage resources to reduce the need for supplemental feeds.
  • Nutrition: Discuss the most efficient and cost-effective ways to maintain cattle performance and health.
  • Reproduction: Improve profitability by enhancing reproductive performance.
  • Health: Control diseases by maintaining health and vigor with a herd management protocol.
  • End Product: Understand what the consumer wants, leading to better decision making on how herd management impacts what is delivered to the consumer.
  • Industry Issues: Address current industry trends and issues affecting the beef cattle producer.

Beef Quality Assocation
Beef Quality Assurance (BQA):
A national program that raises consumer confidence through offering proper management techniques and a commitment to quality within every segment of the beef industry.


TAEP Farm Investment Project
Tennessee Agriculture Enhancement Program (TAEP):
This program was established in 2005 to provide cost share dollars to agricultural producers for the purpose of making long-term investments in Tennessee farms and communities. Participation allows producers to maximize farm profits, adapt to changing market situations, improve operation safety, increase farm efficiency, and make a positive economic impact in their communities.
